Visual Adventure: Realm of the Polar Bear

Star Statulevicius August 14, 2014 7

I never thought I would be able to add “crossed the Arctic circle” to my travel resume, but participating on the Realm of the Polar Bear tour has given me the ability to do so!

For nine days, myself and about a hundred other fellow adventurers hit the Greenland Sea off the coast of Svalbard aboard the G Expedition in search of polar bears, walrus, ice floes and more. My trip did not disappoint! Our wildlife checklist grew and grew by the day. We also had plenty of views of the majestic fjords and mountains. One of my favourite moment was staring in awe as ‘house size’ pieces of a glacier calved in front of our eyes.

Here are some highlights that I enjoyed the most!

Our first wildlife encounter just happened to be with this gentleman.

I have bern interested in an Arctc Adventure for several years but just can’t afford it. I am a senior single trveler and am interested in a 9 or 10 day cruise in and around Svalbard for a price I can afford.
Realm of the Polar Bear has always interested me. Any ideas?

I am just back from Realm of the Polar Bear Trip and I have to say it was an awesome trip. Best trip I ever did. . I have been showing some of my photos of the polar bear we watched for hours last Sunday and people cant believe how big and beautiful she was. Looking back on star photos it was just how I remember it

We did this trip last year and it was the best holiday we ever had, the combination of John Kernan as Expedition Leader and Captain Thomas Röder really made the trip. The crew and the rest of the expedition staff were really good too. Frank having his cap stolen by a Skewer was really funny. Well worth the money and really appreciated being able to download Sue’s photos and all the trip details afterwards. Tip stay in the Trappers Hotel before you join the Ship, not a luxury hotel but really quirky and atmospheric. Maybe we’ll redo the trip next year – hopefully……
