Why We Made Our Own List of Natural Wonders
You have probably heard the outcry over the list of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The list, which was created by the New 7 Wonders Foundation, took votes from all over the world to come up with a list of 7.
The actual voting is wholly non-scientific with multiple votes being permissible, and usually encouraged on a wide scale. Moreover, the entire process is done behind the scenes with no oversight or audit of the voting process.
The Wanderers in Residence decided that we could build a better list.
We are a list of travelers who have spent years of our life traveling around the world. We've seen and done things that only a small percentage of humanity will ever see or do. We've created the list not based on money given to us by tourist boards or nationalistic voting, but from a love of travel and the desire for people to explore planet Earth.
We intend this list not to be the final say on the subject, but rather the beginning of a discussion. A discussion where everyone can share their opinions of what makes this world great and share with others suggests for what we should explore. A discussion not based on what country has which site, but what are the greatest treasures in our natural heritage.
Without further ado, here is the Wanderers in Residence's 7 Wonders of Nature: (This list was made up by our Wanderers in Residence Nomadic Matt, Gary Arndt from Everything Everywhere, Jodi from Legal Nomads, Audrey and Daniel from Uncornered Market, Nellie from Wild Junket and JD from EarthXplorer)
- Mount Everest

- Galapagos Islands

- Grand Canyon

- Ngorongoro Crater

- Antarctica

- Amazon River Basin

- Great Barrier Reef
