Director of Global Communications

The primary purpose of the Director of Global Communications is to develop and implement global media, social media and public relations initiatives that significantly widen the reach of G Adventures and its brand. The Director of Global Communications will lead the global public relations efforts for G Adventures and Planeterra. This role will handle proactive and reactive media relations and develop strategies and campaigns to support key business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute strategic PR and social media programs to advance the G Adventures brand in the marketplace
  • Ensure all PR and social media initiatives embody organizational marketing objectives
  • Oversee the planning, content development and direction of both global and regional social media strategies
  • Strategically leverage appropriate media assets such as our Founder, Core Executives, Wanderers in Residence, select CEOs and of course, our G Mayor, to enhance the external G Adventures profile
  • Proactively identify PR and social media opportunities that support key business objectives
  • Manage all media relationships with key trade and industry contacts
  • Oversee all external media communications and materials including press releases, media alerts and fact sheets
  • Act as external spokesperson for organization where necessary
  • Develop, measure, and evaluate social channel efforts through online monitoring systems
  • Manage external PR agency initiatives, including selection, metric setting and tracking
  • Lead all global communication efforts during periods of crisis management

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of travel, lifestyle, media or entertainment public relations experience
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in communications, advertising and/or a marketing-related field
  • Strong experience implementing creative media and public relations campaigns that drive brand awareness and brand equity
  • Proven success with social/digital and content based marketing approaches
  • Understanding and experience executing PR strategies integrated with social media channels
  • An understanding of the travel & lifestyle market and communicating with the targeted consumer base
  • Proven ability to advise and influence across multiple functions and levels, particularly with executive members and the founder/president/CEO
  • Experience developing and managing a communications department budget
  • Strong experience leading a communications team providing mentorship and development through performance management
  • Superior attention to detail and project management skills
  • Ability to provide clear direction with a sense of urgency
  • Flexibility for global travel as required
