What G Adventures Does

G Adventures is devoted to ensuring that our small group adventures protect natural resources and contribute to local economies, which is why we work directly through Planeterra—a non-profit organization specializing in sustainable community development through travel and voluntourism.

Planeterra focuses on developing communities sustainably through environmental conservation, healthcare, education and small business projects. Together, G Adventures and Planeterra create trips that include visits to these projects. By connecting local projects and micro-enterprises with travelers, we hope to make an immediate impact on local peoples’ livelihoods and their well-being.

G Adventures is proud to have founded and to continue to support Planeterra’s commitment to preserving local culture and improving the quality of life in the communities we visit.

As a leader in sustainable adventure travel, we work closely with all our partners to ensure they operate in accordance with our Ecotourism Operator Standards. We constantly re-evaluate and improve how our tours are run from the ground up, often taking suggestions from sustainable-minded travellers into account. As part of our philosophy to operate responsibly and sustainably at all levels of the company, we strive to follow and continually improve upon the following criteria:

  • Tour Operation
  • Tour Leaders and Local Guides
  • Giving Back to the Community
  • Head Office Initiatives

Planeterra

A visit to one of Planeterra’s projects provides genuine insight into the challenges people face around the world and a hands-on opportunity to see where your donation goes. Learn about the initiatives we support and donate at planeterra.org. You can also choose to donate one dollar, euro, or pound per day (depending on your home country) for the duration of your tour.

This Earth Month

At G Adventures Base Camp in Toronto, we are going treeplanting! Every urban centre requires healthy forests, so we are joining up with other Toronto residents to help reforest one of our biggest urban parks.

Did You Know?

  • The Atlantic Rainforest is in far worse shape than its better-known cousin. Approximately 20% of the Amazon Rainforest has been deforested—but over 93% of the Atlantic Rainforest has disappeared—and with it the creatures that make it their home.
  • Nearly 70% of the vertebrate species classified as endangered in Brazil are found in the Atlantic Rainforest.
  • When rainforest is cleared and intensively farmed, soil rapidly loses its fertility—often within 20 years or less—after which a farmer is forced to clear more land to maintain income.
  • The Atlantic Forest of tropical South America boasts 20,000 plant species—40% of which are endemic.
