G Adventures Skydivers raise over $8000 for Charity

18 Jul 2005

July 11th, 2005 - The sun was shining for the second annual "Planeterra Jump for Charity" held July 9th and 10th, 2005 at Skydive SWOOP in Dundas. With over 30 G Adventures staff, friends and travellers leaping out of perfectly good airplanes, all for the sake of charity.

In the end, our brave skydivers raised $8257 for the Planeterra Foundation, whose funds are used to support community develop projects throughout Latin America, as well as other beneficial charitable organizations. The weekend was a huge success, surpassing last years figures of around 20 jumpers and $5000 raised.

After setting a record at Skydive SWOOP, by sending out 29 tandem jumpers in one day, things briefly settled down as the sun set and the BBQ was turned on. After the night festivities which included a great bonfire and camping, a number of jumpers took advantage of the continued great weather by jumping again on Sunday.

Thanks again to everyone who came out to jump, or at least lended their support by sponsoring our jumpers. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year, for an even bigger and better 3rd edition of the "Planeterra Jump for Charity."

For those that missed the event this year, the "Planeterra Jump for Charity" is one of G Adventures' annual fundraising events focused on showing our committment to responsible tourism. All funds raised go to the Planeterra Foundation, which is a non-profit organization developed by G Adventures and dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of people and communities throughout Latin America and around the world. A list of projects supported by Planeterra is available at www.planeterra.org

Special mention goes to our own J.C. for raising the most funds for charity and coming away with a digital camera for her efforts. Special thanks also goes out to Diane Cornish and the recognition we received with local newspaper coverage.
