June 8, 2007 - Have you ever wanted to jump out of a plane at 10,500 feet – all for a great cause? Join G Adventures, a world leader in adventure travel, as it invites 40 brave fundraisers and adrenaline addicts to take the leap of a lifetime at its 4th annual Jump for Charity. The event will be held at Skydive Swoop on Saturday, July 7 in Dundas, Ontario. 100% of the proceeds from the fundraising event will go directly to Planeterra, G Adventures’ non-profit foundation which supports local community projects and international charities.
The event will include safety and ground training for all skydive participants. G Adventures pays the jump fee for 40 participants - who in turn each raise a minimum of $300 to enjoy their adventure in the sky. The day will also be filled with lots of on the ground activities including a BBQ sponsored by M&M Meat Shops, a bonfire, optional overnight camping, as well as watching friends and family build up the courage to skydive! The top fundraiser will also win a fantastic G Adventures Inca Journey to Machu Picchu & the Amazon Rainforest.
“The 4th annual Jump for Charity is gearing up to be even more exciting than last year,” says Elinor Schwob, fundraising coordinator, Planeterra. “In 2006, our event raised more than $15,000 for Planeterra, supporting a variety of projects around the world including fresh water wells in Guatemala, HIV education training in Tanzania, helping Bolivian families in need of medical support, and conservation in the Galapagos Islands. This year, we hope to raise a minimum of $20,000 for our worldwide Planeterra projects. We have fabulous sponsors and amazing participants and are looking forward to another spectacular event. We invite everyone to come out to join in the fun and make a global impact!”
The Mayor of Hamilton, Ontario, Fred Eisenberger comments, "As members of Planeterra you can be proud of the outstanding humanitarian services and your generous gifts of time and commitment to building a brighter future for people who are less fortunate."
Steve Pugh, President MPH Graphics, and first time jumper has an ambitious goal for his first skydiving venture of $10,000. “I feel it is simple,” says Pugh. “I’m choosing to free fall to fundraise for those less fortunate than I am. I feel that I am also assisting those who are also in ‘free fall’, by no choice of their own.”
The skydive begins at 8am on Saturday, July 7, 2007 and runs throughout the day. For more information, or to pledge a skydiver, please visit www.planeterra.org/jump_for_charity.php.
