G Adventures raises $100,000 for Peru earthquake

18 Sep 2007

September 18, 2007 – We put out the call for help, and you responded!

Last month, a devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale struck off the coast of Peru, south of the capital city of Lima. The area affected most seriously is to the south of Lima along the coast, including the towns of Ica and Pisco. These places are near and dear to the hearts of everyone at G Adventures and all our travellers who have visited this wonderful country.

G Adventures immediately put out an urgent appeal to assist with the relief effort in Peru. The response has been overwhelming. Between individual donations and G Adventures' commitment to match donations, we have raised more than $100,000 CAD to date, and the amount continues to rise each day!

Our travellers, employees, hotels, and local operators have shown tremendous support in their donation of clothing, food, water, blankets and other much-needed items. Our offices in Cuzco and Lima have purchased, gathered and received an immense amount of food and supplies, which are being delivered on the ground, to the areas most in need.

If you would like to donate, please visit Planeterra – the G Adventures Foundation planeterra.org/earthquake_peru.php and click on DONATE NOW. All funds raised will go the Canadian Red Cross Society to support the relief efforts for those in need of food, shelter and medical aid in affected areas of Peru.

Passengers visiting Peru can drop off clothing and supplies at our local hotels in Cuzco and Lima which will deliver them through the distribution centres.

From everyone here at G Adventures, we would like to thank everyone for their generous support, compassion and their quick response to help the people affected by this tragic event.
