Toronto, November 10, 2009 — G Adventures, the world leader in sustainable adventure travel, was honoured with the prestigious World Tourism Awards during a ceremony at London’s Excel Centre, today. The accolade was presented in conjunction with the World Travel Market, an annual international event and trade show for the travel industry.

“On behalf of the G Adventures team and our travellers across the globe who are committed to changing travel, we are humbled to be recognized by our peers,” said G Adventures CEO and founder Bruce Poon Tip. “Thank you World Tourism Awards for acknowledging our efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people and communities around the world."

The 2009 honourees were recognized for their dedication to sustainable tourism and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. G Adventures was honoured in recognition of its exemplary commitment and vision to giving back to local communities by creating the not-for-profit Planeterra Foundation, then supporting the organization through a donation-matching program. The Planeterra Foundation is dedicated to global community development through sustainable travel and voluntourism.

Inaugurated in 1997, the World Tourism Award was established to recognize the extraordinary initiatives by individuals, companies, organizations, destinations and attractions for outstanding accomplishments in the travel industry. The prestigious award is co-sponsored by Corinthia Hotels, American Express, International Herald Tribune and Reed Travel Exhibitions.
