There is nothing quite as beautiful as sailing down the Amazon River while watching the famous rainforest pass you by on both sides.
Taking a cruise down the Amazon River is a great way to explore the region, according to National Geographic Traveler. Take a cruise that starts in Peru and explore the 28-mile-wide river.
The Amazon is the world's largest river by volume, which houses many legendary creatures like the Sach'amama, a giant black boa, and a mischievous dwarf named Chullachaqui. The river, during the rainy season, can be more than 300-miles-across at the mouth.
On your cruise, be on the lookout for manatees, pink dolphins and giant otters that call the river their home. As the boat glides along the water, make sure to stop off and explore the jungle. Lago Prado is a small village in the Amazon, where 120 villagers live, reports the news source.
For the most authentic experience, travel the Amazon with a small adventure travel group.
