The mountain is located in the Jotunheimen region, which is between Oslo and Trondheim.
With a population of only 4.76 million people, there is enough room for each inhabitant to have 70,000-square-meters of land. However, most of it is rocky wilderness, which has been converted into national parks.
Travelers enjoy a right to access throughout all of Norway, which means that it is possible to camp in numerous places for a couple of days, as long as its not on cultivated land and is 150 meters from a house. Den Norske Turistforening, the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association, operates many self-service mountain cabins along with maps so travelers can safely navigate the rocky mountain ranges.
