Reach new heights on Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park

Travelers in Indonesia have their choice of a range of ecosystems and harrowing adventures to choose. From the bustling city of Jakarta to Bali Safari and Marine Park, there are few countries of similar size that encompass such diversity. For those truly hearty adventurers, a trip to the peaks of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park may be the best way to experience Indonesia's wild lands and pristine beauty.
Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo is surrounded by a number of active and dormant volcanoes that make this peak quite thrilling to visit. While any trip to the top of Bromo will be awe-inspiring, the most popular time to depart for this journey is before dawn to reach the crater's rim for the day's sunrise. Considered by many to be a rather spiritual journey, few will forget the vivid pinks, oranges and light purple hues of a morning spent from these slopes of Mount Bromo.
Mount Semeru
As the park's highest peak, Mount Semeru sits at an impressive 12,060 feet. However, as most of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park sits at approximately 6,500 feet above sea level, the climb is not nearly as daunting as it may seem. Still an active volcano, hikers will find the trek even more thrilling as they inch closer  to the large plumes of smoke that rise from Semeru's crater.
New(er) peaks
The park provides hikers looking for a shorter trip through the volcanic cones the option of exploring four of the region's newest volcanoes: Watangan, Batok, Kursi and Widodaren. With the highest peak at 8,730 feet, however, the terrain is still a major challenge.
