Something for everyone in Koh Samui

Koh Samui has changed drastically since its "discovery" as a Thailand paradise by travelers in the 1970s. While accommodations have become strikingly more refined, few can argue that the natural landscapes aren't breathtaking.
Visitors looking to escape the crowds can find tranquility in Mae Nam and Bang Po, two beaches on the island that remain largely off the beaten track. The tame waters offer a great place to snorkel for a few hours, as well.
However, those wanting a true underwater adventure can head to the vivid waters of Koh Tao, whose reefs include more colors than most travelers can think up. The island's Ang Thong Marine Park is also worth a few hours, as the overhanging rocks and sea lagoons are among the most picturesque in the region.
Koh Samui's natural landscapes are complemented by the region's unique human history. Travelers looking for a historically rich activity can visit a mummified monk at the Wat Khunaram, who still sits in the same meditation position he was found in when he died.
