If you are looking to travel to Brazil, but don't want to go along the beaten path, head down to Minas Gerais for the perfect adventure.
Minas Gerais is one of Brazil's 26 states and offers plenty of opportunities for visitors to explore. Take a trip to the historical city of Ouro Preto, a former colonial mining town located in the Serra do Espinhaco mountains. The city was founded at the end of the 17th century and was the focal point of the Brazilian gold rush. Ouro Preto was the capital of Minas Gerais from 1822 until 1987, when the government grew too big for the small valley. Hike through the mountains and look down on the beautiful colonial town that is now a(n) UNESCO World Heritage site.
Minas Gerais is known for its local cuisine. Traditional cooking is normally done on coal or wood fired ovens and cast iron pots and pans, making the flavors of the meats and spices blend together in a perfect way. The most famous dish is pao de queijo, or a cheese roll, made with local cheese and cassava flour that can be eaten anytime during the day.
So head off the beaten path and explore one of the lesser visited states in Brazil, for a memorable trip to Brazil. For the most authentic experience, it is recommended that you travel with a small adventure tour group.
