Head to Rio de Janeiro for a cultural adventure

While the Brazilian city of Rio de Janerio is preparing for the World Cup in 2014, take the chance to explore the city.
The area is undergoing a makeover of sorts, as it prepares for the throngs of fans. However, the city still has plenty of things to see that will take your breath away.
Head over to Sao Conrado, which is about a 20-minute drive from the city, to see Oscar Niemeyer's Casa das Canoas. According to the New York Times, Rio's most famous architect created the house for himself in 1953 with a curvaceous roof and rock formations around the property.
Back in Rio, don't miss out on the great flea market at Praça 15 de Novembro on the waterfront of the city's historic district. Wind your way through the streets that are lined with old china, vinyl records and local crafts that you won't be able to pick up anywhere else.
The best way to explore Rio is with a small adventure travel group.
