Skiing in Chile is not like normal skiing

While the ski season may be coming to a close for the Northern Hemisphere, Chile is gearing up for its 2011 winter.
There are several resorts in the South American nation that occupies the Andes mountain range, making this one of the most popular places to ski in the Southern Hemisphere.
Portillo, which is only 92 miles from the country's capital city, Santiago, is one of the world's finest ski resorts. This isn't your run-of-the-mill Aspen resort, this is an extreme ski destination that's known for its steep runs and beautiful views.
Closer to Santiago and better for families, Valle Nevado is the largest resort in Chile. Tickets here often connect with El Colorado, famous for its eastern slopes that get covered with snow every winter. Much farther south, Antillanca has fantastic off-piste skiing and obstacles.
Skiing in Chile is a true adventure... there are no apres ski or crowded runs. This is what the sport was like before it ever became popular. Some mountains don't even have chairlifts.
