San Jose, for the love of art and culture

Although San Jose enjoys a moderate climate, the capital of Costa Rica is still rather hot for most travelers. Adventurers who don't want to have their energy flattened before they ever see the nation's prolific jungles, may want to embark on a museum tour throughout this metropolitan area.
Located in a former airport terminal, the Costa Rican Art Museum truly packs a punch. Many of Costa Rica's most beloved artists have some pieces in the collection, which spans a wide array of media and art periods. Visitors should keep a special eye out for native artists such as Edgar Zuniga, Max Jimenez, and Jose Sancho. Observant travelers will notice that many of the pieces have similar designs as those that were popular in Europe, and exude the country's European influence and cultural transitions.
San Jose is also home to the impressive Jade Museum and to a wide array of stunning jade jewelry, and is perfect for travelers with a penchant for gems and finery.
As Costa Rica's capital, San Jose is also home to the National Museum. Found in an old army barracks, the museum has exhibits that will interest nearly every traveler, with history, archaeology and art providing a 2,500-year trip through Costa Rican culture.
