Untamed waters in Sarapiqui Valley

Costa Rica is home to a number of thrilling landscapes. From daunting treks to momentous waterfalls, there are few landscapes that the small country does not provide. Travelers with a hankering for the wet and wild, however, should head to the Sarapiqui Valley.
The Rio Sarapiqui offers untame, untainted waters for any water-borne adventurer, with many opportunities to kayak or raft found throughout the area year-round. Class III and IV rapids can be experienced on the lower portions of the river, while the waters passing by the community of Chilamate offer a better chance for leisurely wildlife spottings.
The former home of United Fruit Company's large banana industry, the Sarapiqui Valley today is transitioning ecosystem with many rugged treks perfect for explorers not averse to finding their own route. Here, travelers will walk through rainforests that still retain many of Costa Rica's most beloved flora and fauna.
Travelers tired after a long day of hiking have a number of accessible lodges and accommodations to stay in for the night. With many offering eco-friendly options, travelers can feel good knowing they are keeping this environment healthy for future generations of thrill-seekers.
