Bran Castle: The birthplace of Dracula?

For horror movie buffs, there's nothing better than visiting places that have a ghoulish history, and nowhere is that more true than at Bran Castle. Located in Romania, the iconic structure is rumored to be the origin of the story of Dracula, and whether or not you believe in vampires, it's hard to resist the draw of this famous landmark.
Commonly referred to as Dracula's Castle, the building's history dates back hundreds of years and has played a central part in Romania's history since the late 1200s. Despite its lengthy back story, Bran Castle's role in the formation of Dracula remains largely a mystery, but many people believe Vlad the Impaler (who is believed to be the inspiration for Dracula) stopped by the castle from time to time.
Even if explorers aren't enticed by the legend of Dracula, Bran Castle remains a popular destination for adventure travel enthusiasts. Though it's located near the town of Bran, the castle is somewhat off the beaten path. Not only that, but it features unique architecture that has stood the test of time.
Bran Castle is also just one of several impressive structures throughout Romania. Some other structures include Hunyad Castle, which dates as far back as 1315, while Poenari Castle has its roots in the 14th century.
