Head to Austria for a historic and beautiful adventure

If you want to take advantage of all that nature has to offer, head over to Hallstatt, Austria, for a beautiful adventure through the mountains.

According to CNN, Hallstatt is located two hours south of Salzburg, in the Salzkammergut lake district, and is one of Europe’s oldest towns. It’s proximity to a huge lake makes it an ideal place to go kayaking or rowing.

The town started as a salt mining center and recent digs have unearthed many Roman and pre-Roman pavement stones from the prehistoric salt depot, according to the news source.

Take a funicular ride up the mountain to the top of the salt mine, slip into a pair of overalls and hike down the mountain to learn more about the history of salt and the mining industry. While exploring the mine, wind your way around the mine by riding down long banisters - the traditional way miners used to travel from one floor to the next.

The best way to see some of the unique small villages that dot the Austrian countryside is with a small group, as it guarantees a more authentic experience.ADNFCR-3357-ID-19917236-ADNFCR
