For those looking to head out on the ultimate adventure trip, it's time to take advantages of 12 sites that are on the verge of irreparable loss and destruction.
Twelve historic sites around the world are "on the verge of vanishing," reports CNN. According to a report carried out by the Global Heritage Fund (GHF), there are nearly 200 sites in around the world that are at risk.
The ruined city of Ani in Turkey dates back to the 11th century and was once known as "the city of a thousand churches." However, nowadays, many of the remaining buildings are now about to collapse, reports the GHF.
"Ani is probably one of the top 10 sites in the world, right up there with Machu Picchu and Angkor Wat. It's incredible," Jeff Morgan, GHF executive director, told the news source.
Due to Ani's location on the Turkish and Armenian boarder, Morgan claims that the city has been caught up in a political mess, as the countries do not have diplomatic relations.
Other sites that GHF mentions are: Mahansrhangarh, Bangladesh; Mirador, Guatemala; Palace of Sans Souci, Haiti; Maluti Temples, India; Lamu, Kenya; Taxila, Pakistan; and Chersonesos, Ukraine.
