Visit the Datca Peninsula on your next tip to Turkey

Explore the Datca Peninsula while you are in Turkey, and explore a less traveled to part of the country.
The narrow peninsula in southwest Turkey separates the Gulf of Gokova from the Gulf of Hisaronu, while the city of Detca is located directly in the middle. The peninsula is great for hiking and feeling like you are truly on an adventure.
The eastern half of the peninsula is mountainous and scarcely inhabited, according to the New York Times. The western part of the city is also mountainous, offering spectacular hikes as mountains rise to over 1,000 meters tall.
At the tip of the peninsula is Tekir, which is marked by Cape Deveboynu. The cape itself is a small area that is almost an island, only connected to the mainland by a small, 300-foot span of land, which was actually a man-made causeway. Before the island was connected to the mainland, it was known as Triopion, after Triopas- the legendary founder of Knidos.
Head back over to the eastern end and explore Benick Cove, which is about a mile long. At the end of the cove is a small isthmus where the peninsula joins the Turkish mainland. The area offers a beautiful view of the two gulfs, and should definitely not be missed.
