Indulge at the Monteverde Cheese Factory

The Quaker community found in Monteverde provide an extremely unique cultural experience in Costa Rica. Predominantly dairy farmers, no experience to this region of Costa Rica is complete without a stop at the Monteverde Cheese Factory.
Due to the lush grasses that are supported from the cloud forest, the Quakers' cheese takes on a great full-bodied flavor. The cheese factory, which has been in business for more than 60 years, provides a range of dairy-based products, and has come a long way from its original gouda.
While cheese fans will delight at the number of varieties available at the factory, ice cream aficionados will also find Monteverde's offerings to be quite delicious. Using many locally-sourced ingredients for flavoring, visitors can relish in the mingling tastes of Costa Rican coffee beans, tropical pineapple and mango, and even local coconut.
This is also one epicurean indulgence that visitors can feel good about. Doing its part for the environment, all whey byproduct that is created from the cheese-making process is donated as food for pigs at local farms.
