Looking for a some rugged excitement? Try Newfoundland.

Rugged and rich in history the island of Newfoundland sits just off Canada’s Atlantic coast, offering adventure at every turn.
iReporter Margaret Zubert recently returned from a 12 day journey to the large island with her sister. She tells CNN that she set out to visit every province in her native Canada.
The 63-year old set out from Deer Lake in the Northwest traveling along the Northern Peninsula and eventually south along the coast to St. John’s.
She says she was most impressed with the rugged and rough scenery and how close the ocean was to most every place they visited.
To navigate the rugged terrain, there are a number of hiking trails that offer a variety of backdrops. The Western Brook Pond trail cuts through the low mountains and the more challenging Green Gardens winds along the Trout River. There’s a good amount of hiking trails along the sea coast as well.
Other adventures include navigating the many fjords by boat or the Targa Newfoundland, a motor sport competition that takes place in September.
The best way to explore the rugged terrain of Newfoundland is with a small group of adventure travelers.
