The strength of tradition in La Paz

The rugged peaks that surround La Paz have long shaped the city's fabric. Just as the mountains continue to keep their natural benefits, the people of La Paz have stayed true to the ancestral heritage of Bolivia.
Found atop the Bolivian plateau, the city's dynamic natural surroundings are enough to make any outdoor enthusiast swoon. The most regal of La Paz's snow-capped peak neighbors is Illimani, a sacred mountain that has long been revered by locals. Just beyond the city lies Lake Titicaca, Bolivia's most famous lake and the world's highest navigable lake.
La Paz's citizens have held onto their traditional threads as tightly as the landscape has. Most visitors are amazed at the colorful designs of women's dresses and skirts found in every color imaginable. Visitors who fall in love with the designs and patterns can find many for sale at the city's numerous streetside stands.
Travelers looking for some unique shopping can head to the Mercado de los Brujos, also known as the Witches' Market, to uncover some of the region's most time-tested medicines and good-luck charms.
