Travelers can experience ancient Indian art in Mumbai's Elephanta Caves

Individuals who are seeking adventure travel in India may want to make Mumbai their destination. This capital city of India made Lonely Planet's list of the top 10 most beautiful places in the world in which to wake up due to the incredible views its location on the water affords at dawn.
While in Mumbai, visitors can experience what Fodor's calls a world in itself, which is full of razzle-dazzle Indian style. The city is a frantic melange of India's extremes, as it displays the glamor of Bollywood as well as the harsh poverty of the slums, according to Lonely Planet. At the Elephanta Caves, a mere hour ferry ride outside of the city, adventure travelers can experience yet another side of Mumbai - its rich ancient religious heritage.
Mumbai's Elephanta Caves are thought to have been constructed sometime around the seventh century by practitioners of Shaivism, states Sacred Destinations. In order to show their devotion to Shiva, the Destroyer and Supreme God, ancient worshippers carved elaborate temples and sculptures into the caves that rise out of the sea. Lonely Planet suggests that travelers visit Elephanta Island in the late afternoon to enjoy the phenomenal sunset on the ride back.
Elephanta Island is best experienced with a small group of adventure travelers.
