Traveling around the world gives people the kind of freedom they have always thought about. Being able to trek up mountain ranges and find a hidden lake is one of the many perks of traveling a little bit off the beaten path.
There are some places around the world that boast beautiful winding trails that lead right to lakes that will take your breath away. Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is one of them. Almost a mile up in the highlands of Guatemala, Atitlan is nestled among three conical volcanoes. The lake is lined by small villages, which are guarded by steep hills covered in oak and pine trees, according to CNN. The town of Panajachel is closely located and provides amazing vistas of the lake.
Lake Garda, in Italy is also among one of the best lakes to visit, according to the news source. The country's largest lake is home to hot springs, quaint villas and 28 miles of pebbly beaches. To the north of the lake are the Dolomites, where you can test your rock-climbing and mountain biking on some of the well known trails.
