The Wadi Rum Protected Area is a natural preserve in Jordan. It has been described as the highlight of the country and may hold some of the most beautiful stretches of desert in the world. This location first became famous in the early 20th century through the exploits of Lawrence of Arabia, and still offers plenty of opportunity for adventure travel.
The Bedouins have lived in these deserts for thousands of years, and one tribe, the Huweitat, claims to be descended from the Prophet Muhammad.
