Escape to Aqaba and roam the land that Lawrence of Arabia wanted

Get off the beaten path and head to Jordan’s port city of Aqaba, for a time you wont forget.

The only port city in Jordan, Aqaba offers a unique insight into the country. Time magazine lists this city, which is located on the Red Sea, as one not to miss on your next trip.

The 6,000 year old port, which is said to have been fought over by Lawrence of Arabia and the Ottomans, now offers visitors a place to enjoy the clear waters, fine flavors and rich culture that has developed in the city.

Raghadan and Zahran Streets are lined with restaurants catering to all different taste palates. Enjoy freshly made hummus, kibbeh, and a kebab before savoring some pistachio and honey filled baklawa. You can’t go wrong with any restaurants on this street, according to the news source.

Visit Petra and Wadi Rum for a beautiful photo opportunity. Not only will the the windswept caves of the wadi take your breath away, they will also transport you back to a time when Lawrence of Arabia wandered the desert. It’s no wonder that Wadi Rum was the backdrop to the 1962 Oscar winning movie.

The old town of Aqaba is located at the core of the port town, and will transport you back to old Arabia. Visit the souk or market place, and wander through the stalls full of colorful scarfs and trinkets. Take a break and sip on some strong Arabic coffee while watching people browse through the winding narrow streets of the old city.
