South America is known for its beautiful weather and rich historical culture. Head down to Lima, Peru, to explore the arts, fashion and jewelry which have deep roots in the country.
Wander through Jr. Julio Victor Aguirre, a small street in Lima that is lined with old buildings with white windows. The area also features a number of small boutiques that feature traditional arts and crafts.
One shop belongs to Titi Guiul, who used to design gala gowns, according to the news source. She then stopped two years ago, when she founded two nonprofit organizations that centered around saving various pre-Columbian textile techniques. She now teaches children in the Andes how to hand-loom, works with adult weavers and secures fair-trade deals for their products. She also sells some of their work at her store in Lima.
"Working with children of the Andes, giving them the opportunity to show what’s in their soul, saving old traditions - all that’s the prize,” she told the news source.
