Visit the ancient remains of the Warriors of the Clouds in Karajia

Vibrancy is a way of life, it seems, in Peru, and is a trend that doesn't change for its citizens, even in death. For a look at one of the country's most colorful pieces of history, visitors can travel to the archaeological site of Karajia.
Guests are greeted at the Karajia by six large white figures, each dressed in red. Standing at nearly 10 feet in height, these figures were once the final resting places for a single human, mummified in these gigantic sarcophagai.
Made from soil, wood and straw, these well-carved structures provide visitors with one of the best ways to learn about the Chachapoyan culture. Also called the Warriors of the Clouds, this infamous cultural group has several remnants in Peru, yet these stone-faced warriors, sitting high above on a clifftop, provide one of the most arresting reminders of the Chachapoyan.
From Karajia, travelers can visit a number of local towns and villages, such as the Pueblos de los Muertos, or the Village of the Dead, a collection of stone tombs that is one of Peru's most legendary ruins.
