Galapagos Islands a must-see for nature lovers

For nature enthusiasts, there are few adventure travel destinations more appealing than the Galapagos Islands. Located off the coast of South America, the archipelago has some of the most diverse wildlife in the world and has been a famous biological hub for centuries. There's no lack of opportunities to immerse yourself in the indigenous ecosystem, but there are a few activities you simply can't miss if you make your way to the Galapagos.
Snorkeling in Gardner Bay
Located around Espanola Island, Gardner Bay is one of the premier sites for snorkeling, not only in the Galapagos, but perhaps the world. Not only does the bay provide a great beach, but once you get in the water there is plenty to explore, including throngs of native marine wildlife.
Even outside of the water, there are plenty of animals you can't see anywhere else. Perhaps most famously, the beach is home to brightly colored marine iguanas, some of the most unique reptiles on the planet. There are also a number of beautiful birds including hood mockingbirds and blue-footed boobies.
Charles Darwin Research Station
The Galapagos Islands may be best known for helping Charles Darwin develop the theory of evolution, and today the research station in his name is committed to helping preserve the unique environment of the islands.
Aside from doing considerable work to make sure the many animals are protected, the research station also is serves as an educational tool to people visiting the island. There are many mysterious animals that populate the islands, and the stations can offer insight into how they live.
Galapagos National Park
It would be shame to visit a wildlife hub such as Galapagos without making a trip to its national park. The natural preserve, which was established in 1958, was the first national park in Ecuador's history and is home to many species including the famous Wolf Volcano tortoise.
