The dances of Thailand are in a class all their own, and those visiting the nation will definitely want to go out of their way to catch a performance.
There are six types of thai dancing, known collectively as Fawn Thai, each with its own style and purpose. Fawn Tian is one of the most famous, known as the candle dance, primarily performed in the northern region. This slow, graceful dance is typically performed before festivals or for important guests.
Fawn Leb is another type of dance that travelers may have come across when researching the destination. Known as the fingernail dance, this interesting form of movement typically involves several female dancers who wear brass fingernails. Visitors to Bangkok can glimpse this peculiar and beautiful form of art just outside the city at the Rose Garden and Cultural Center.
While each type of dance is unique, they do share some characteristics. Thai dancers typically wear bright colors, and all forms of the dance are elegant and graceful, despite their variety.
