Travelers who are fans of the reality television series "Survivor" will likely remember Borneo as the host nation on the show's first season.
An island in Southeast Asia, the landscape is as diverse as the number of animals species found here. Mountains, thick jungles, beautiful tropical beaches and deep caves all make this country one of the most unusual and exotic in the world.
According to the Huffington Post, "the slopes of Mount Kinabalu and the dense forest trails of the Bario Loop offer prime hiking terrain; mangroves and wetlands provide lush aquatic vistas; and the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre will make anyone go ape."
When travelers aren't exploring the natural attractions of Borneo, they can interact with the locals in remote villages. They'll get to stay in traditional longhouse accommodations, further immersing themselves in the nations country.
In addition, visitors will get to explore the Kinabatangang River where they might see king fishers, hornbills, macaque and proboscis monkeys. Animals like elephants, wild boars, orangutans and other timid species have been spotted on these trips as well.
The best way to experience Borneo is with a small group of adventure travelers.
