Glynis (Morrison) Samuels and Dawn Samuels, Travellers.
I was bit by the travel bug early on—in fact, I think travel is in my blood. I’ve travelled to many different places on ‘vacations’, but had lately been looking for something more. I wanted to actually see the world, experience it—touch and taste it.
Back in 2000, I was bit again after spending a month touring through Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. Ever since then, I’ve continued to dream about the amazing places on our planet in hopes that one day I would have the opportunity to visit them. In fact, I recently set out to make a ‘bucket’ list.
Two years ago, I mentioned to my mother that I had always had a fascination with the peoples and customs of Egypt and the Middle East. She said that that was one place she really would love to go to see in her lifetime—she was 67 at the time. I wasn’t sure, however, if a G Adventures trip would be the thing for her and questioned her ability to keep up with the group—I wanted to see everything that we could possibly see and didn’t want to miss a thing!
My Mom assured me she would be able to keep up and I was amazed at how well she fit in with the 15 others in our group—people from all over the world. In the space of a month, our group grew into an extended family as we experienced this amazing destination and were treated to so many fantastic memories.
What I loved about G Adventures was that we could choose trip styles and comfort levels to ensure that we didn’t miss a thing. My mother was a trooper. In fact, she had more energy than some of us in our 40s, 30s and, yes—even 20s—as much as I hate to admit it.
This was an experience with my mother that I will forever cherish and carry with me. Mom and I often reminisce about the things we saw and did while on our journey together through Egypt. I never dreamed I would see the pyramids, ride a camel, overnight on the Nile or camp out in Egypt’s white desert with my Mom.
I would highly recommend G Adventures as the best adventure travel company out there. We didn’t have to worry about a thing. Our guide, Adel, was a wealth of information and continually ensured that everyone in our group was enjoying themselves.
The other really amazing thing was that most people who I’ve shared our trip to Egypt with were surprised to learn about its incredible price and value. Most people assume it’s unaffordable to do something like this. I’m here to tell you it’s not—and if you really want these experiences, go for it. You will never regret for one moment what the world has to offer you.
This summer, I am off for over a month and, along with my best friend, will travel to South America (Peru and Bolivia). From what I have read and seen online, it’s likely to far outweigh my expectations. Counting down the days!
Keep up the great work. And thanks for the memories!
