Fly to Iquitos. Included city tour, visit to a manatee rescue centre and transfer to the boat. Cast off on the Amazon River.
Spend the first day sailing to the confluence of the Marañon and Ucayali rivers, considered to be the point where the Amazon River begins. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys, sloths, a variety of birds and the famous pink dolphin. Over the next five days, you'll explore the wonders of Amazon rainforest. Your expert guides will lead jungle walks, give lectures and point out unique species of bird and marine life as you explore the smaller tributaries of the river. Two days of excursions in the Pacaya–Samiria National Reserve will provide remarkable wildlife viewing opportunities, and a chance to interact with the locals. Meet a local shaman and discover the mystical world of spiritual healing. Go piranha fishing and explore the mangroves in a dugout canoe. Take the opportunity to go swimming. Attend a jungle cooking lesson to sample local cuisine and learn how to make traditional dishes. Spot nocturnal wildlife. Visit the Sapisapi River to look for charapas and turtles. Visit the port town of Nauta and visit a local market to gain a deeper understanding of how people live in this remote part of the world.
Disembark at Iquitos, transfer to the airport for the flight back to Lima. Free afternoon to explore the capital of Peru.
Enjoy a free day in the Peruvian capital also known as the 'City of Kings'. Take an optional city tour, visit one of the many museums of ancient history or enjoy the fresh seafood in one of the cities many restaurants.
Early flight to Cusco then on to the Sacred Valley to spend two days exploring with a local guide. Visit the Ccaccaccollo community and the Planeterra-sponsored Women's Weaving Co-op. Also, visit the Planeterra-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant in Huchuy Qosco, an indigenous village for lunch. Explore the Pisac and Moray ruins and visit the local handicraft market. Visit the pre-Incan salt pans of Las Salineras and the Ollantaytambo and Moray ruins and enjoy a traditional Pachamanca-style dinner of local specialities.
Early transfer to Ollantaytambo station and catch the scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes with option to visit the market. Those who have chosen the option in advance for the '1-day Inca Trail' hike will disembark the train at 104 km and trek to the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu before re-joining the group at Aguas Calientes for the night.
Enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu ruins. Free time to explore or take an optional visit to the Inca Bridge before returning to Cusco by train.
Free day to explore Cusco's historic streets, museums and local markets. Active options include whitewater rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Fly back to Lima for the final evening.
