Our most comprehensive Costa Rican driving adventure! Start with the mangroves, jungles and canals of Tortuguero, nesting ground for giant sea turtles. Next, try rafting or relax in hot springs around active Arenal Volcano before driving up into the cool hills of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Soak in dramatic volcanic scenery in remote Rincon de la Vieja before topping it all off with some beach time--and monkeys--in Manuel Antonio Park, famous for its beaches, bars and wildlife.

  • By choosing the car option with the Costa Rica pass, you gain the flexibility of a car with the comfort of a set itinerary. As with the bus transfer option, all accommodation is included in the cost of the pass. THE CAR The standard model used with the Costa Rica Pass is the Daihatsu Terios, which seats three comfortably, leaving room for four pieces of standard luggage. The car is manual transmission, four door, with 4WD capabilities, A/C and AM/FM radio. It also comes equip with surf racks, baby seats (if requested at the time of booking), a cellular phone and list of important numbers. You will also be provided with country maps and directions to destinations. Be advised that in order to pick up your vehicle, you will require a valid drivers license, passport and major credit card. The driver must between 23 – 75 years old at the time of rental. An international drivers license is not required, only a valid license from your home country. ADDITIONAL COSTS Other costs associated with the car option include: - A mandatory USD 18 per day insurance fee to be paid locally - All fuel costs. - A USD 750 deposit that will be charged to your credit card and withheld for the duration of your rental. Barring any damages, this will be refunded in full when the car is returned. OTHER OPTIONAL COSTS - Additional drivers will be charged USD 2 per day, paid locally. - A non-deductible insurance package with the same coverage as above is available at USD 9 per day.

Day 1 Arrive San José

Arrive in San José at any time.

Day 2-3 Tortuguero (B,L,D)

Early pick-up from your hotel in San Jose for the drive out of the central highlands and down to the river port, stopping for breakfast on the way. After a short visit to a banana plantation, hop on board a comfortable lancha (boat) for your journey through the remarkable Tortuguero canals to the Pachira/Evergreen Lodge. After lunch visit the small village of Tortuguero. The next morning take a relaxing walk in the forest or choose one of the lodge's optional activities. In the afternoon climb muddy Cerro Tortuguero (Tortuguero Hill) for a great view over the park. Chill out at the lodge before an optional night excursion to see the nesting of the giant turtles (seasonal March–September).

Day 4-5 La Fortuna

Transfer from Tortuguero to Guapiles and drive to your hotel in the town of La Fortuna, located at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. Hot springs, rafting, waterfalls and more await you here.

Day 6-7 Monteverde

Drive to your hotel in the remote village of Monteverde, home to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. Spend your days exploring the Cloud Forest or zip through the treetops on the SkyTrek, one of the world’s largest zip line systems.

Day 8-9 Rincon de la Vieja

Continue on to Rincon de la Vieja, where you stay in a simple hotel on the slopes of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and enjoy more of the stunning scenery which Costa Rica is so famous for.

Day 10-13 Manuel Antonio/Quepos Area

Make your way to your hotel located in the mountains. Take a nature hike or try your hand at many of the water sports offered at the nearby beaches.

Day 14 San José

Return to San José for the night.
