Located on the Tambopata River in the Peruvian Amazon, our exclusive ‘G Lodge Amazon’ is comfortable and intimate. Enjoy excursions by expert naturalists to spot wildlife at nearby oxbow lakes and clay licks. Explore by canoe or on dry land trails, swim in the lodge’s cool stream, or strap on a harness and rope up to tree platforms for a bird’s eye view of the forest. Really experience the Amazon to the fullest by spending two nights camping in the jungle—get even closer to nature!
You'll be picked up at the Puerto Maldonado airport for your trip upstream to the lodge. After lunch and a chance to settle in, set off for an introductory walk into the "terra firme" forest behind the lodge to see the giant Brazil-nut and Dipteryx trees. Frequently seen mammals on this trail are Agoutis, Pacas, Blue-Morpho butterflies, Trogons, Toucans and many other species of birds. After dinner head out on a night walk to discover the amazing nocturnal creatures.
After breakfast we will board a boat to head deep into the National Reserve up the river to the Collpa de Guacamayos, the bird and mammal clay licks. Here we hope to observe scarlet macaws and peccaries in separate areas, feeding on the mineral deposits found in the clay. We will set up camp and have the remainder of the afternoon to explore the surrounding trail system of the rainforest before sleeping under the forest canopy.
Rise early today to get to the clay lick before the birds! Witness the sights and sounds of the macaws and parrots feeding on the minerals and salts of the clay. Explore the area with a guide who will aid and advise you as you hike some of the numerous trails.
Return to the lodge and hike to an Oxbow lake rich in bird and aquatic life. A family of Giant Otters live in the vicinity of the lake and are often observed. At night you will go searching for Caiman (alligators) and other nocturnal animals by canoe along the Tambopata River.
Today you're off to Lake Sachavacayoc. After breakfast take a boat excursion to a spectacular hidden lake where it is possible to spot the elusive black caiman and giant otters. Return for lunch - the afternoon is free for relaxation and swimming.
A dawn start is required for the canoe trip back to Puerto Maldonado, you are rewarded with memorable views of the sun rise over the river. Arrive at Puerto Maldonado for your flight out of the jungle.
