Route map for Hogmanay in Scotland (EUHS)

Day 1 Edinburgh

Arrive at any time. After a welcome meeting, join the torchlight procession that winds through the New Town up to Calton Hill, where a massive bonfire and fireworks start the Hogmanay celebration. This memorable procession is led by a Viking group complete with drums and bagpipes.

We stay in a centrally located hostel just a few minutes by foot from all of the festivities and events.

Day 2 Edinburgh (1B)

Enjoy a walking tour of town for an introduction to Scotland's capital city. Consider packing a flask to keep warm. Wander through the city during free time, and opt to visit the Edinburgh Castle with sweeping views of the city. Indulge in hot toddies, deep fried mars bars and chips, cheese and gravy and check out the stalls and activities of the annual German Christmas market. At night, grab an included ticket and head out to Edinburgh's world-famous New Year's street party, filled with tens of thousands of revelers waiting to sing Auld Lang Syne at the stroke of midnight to welcome in the new year.

Attendance is capped at 80,000, and the party usually sells out. There are multiple stages with live music and multiple fireworks displays over the course of the night.

Day 3 Edinburgh (1B)

Sleep off the party then opt to check out the Loony Dook—an annual New Year's Day swim in frigid waters by brave costume-clad swimmers.

Day 4 Edinburgh (1B)

Depart at any time. While bags can be stored at the hostel, check-out time is in the morning.
