Visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu.
Take a guided tour of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. On Day 3 in the afternoon depart on a 48-hour train journey to Lhasa. Enjoy the views while watching the scenery completely change as you climb onto the Tibetan Plateau.
Orientation walk around Barkhor Square. Visit Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace and either Sera or Drepung Monastery from Lhasa.
Drive to Gyantse, visiting Yamdrok Tso en route.
Visit Pelkhor Chode in the morning before continuing to Shigatse.
Visit the Tashilunpo Monastery and Sakya Gompa.
Travel day through beautiful scenery to reach Dzongba.
Another travel day to Darchen, home base for the kora trek. Follow the road across grasslands for the first spectacular view of Mt Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
Staying in basic guesthouses, the full kora takes two and half days to complete. Spend the evening of Day 16 back in Darchen.
Crossing the grasslands, drive south to Saga.
