Get a new perspective on France with this canal barge adventure. Each day you'll cruise for 4-5 hours, clearing locks and seeing the world at a pace you'll appreciate. Along the way stop for wine tastings and gastronomic indulgences, cycle along country lanes and hike green valleys. Your houseboat home has only four cabins, so you're sharing the deck and the views with like-minded travellers. With a CEO there to offer advice—and steer!—you'll quickly realize that getting there is half the adventure.
Please note that the following is a sample itinerary only and may change due to canal conditions, traffic, weather and other factors. Some departures will run in the opposite direction.
Meet in Dijon then transfer to beautiful green Pontailler-sur-Saône in the Burgundy region where you board our 49-ft canal boat. The barge has four cabins with attached bathrooms plus a cabin for your CEO. A shared lounge and kitchen round off the inside space with garden furniture and an electric barbeque outside. Opt to rent a bicycle during your tour and store it on board, space permitting.
Dig into the included starter kit of breakfast essentials and local delicacies to start your day off right, then cruise 4-5 hours a day along the Saône River. Take a turn driving your boat if you'd like. Opt to go hiking or check out Auxonne's castle and other medieval buildings.
Enjoy cruising through the region's lush greenery before arriving to this important river port. Sample the town's specialities of marble hams and cheese puffs.
Hike the trails along the water and through the greenery of the Saône Valley and walk through town to see its beautiful vintage buildings. Opt to kayak or try your hand at fishing. Enjoy a dinner of regional specialities with some local friends.
Cruise to this old settlement town then stroll along the river, cycle along the roads and don't miss trying the local speciality of pôchouse, a river fish in a white wine cream sauce. Check out the Ile du Château, an island accessible by footbridge.
Opt to visit the culture-rich town of Beaune either by train or by cycling along beautiful vineyard-lined paths and roads en route. Don't miss Beaune's extensive underground wine cellars!
Explore the alleyways, old buildings and cafés of this medieval town on the southern tip of Burgundy. Sample artisanal chocolates and delicious cheeses while you're here—they'll go great with the wine you picked up in Beaune. Be sure to visit the impressive St. Philibert Abbey.
Cruise through a picture-perfect canal surrounded by vineyards on your final day of boating. Sample some of the rich culinary specialities from the ancient walled city of Louhans before transferring back to Dijon in the afternoon.
