“Dreamtime,” the animist mythology central to indigenous Australian society, is a fascinating ideology that has helped shape the continent. This trip is just the ticket for curious travellers eager to learn more about Aboriginal history, culture and contemporary life straight from the people themselves. Up here in the north, you’ll study ancient traditions, learn how to spear-fish, wander the beaches and lush valleys along the Daintree River and embark on a life-affirming rainforest walk that will bring you closer to the land and the people who inhabit it than you ever thought possible. The dream is real, and it’s waiting for you to join it.
During the rainy season (November to March), it may be necessary to run the itinerary in reverse when the Bloomfield Track is closed due to weather conditions and safety.
Depart early from Cairns, then head north. Take an Aboriginal art class, learn the stories behind the images and take home what you make. Learn about the flora and fauna with local Aboriginals, then go spearfishing with them and eat what you catch. Cool off in a waterfall in Daintree NP. Overnight in a rainforest lodge beside the beach.
Travel by 4x4 on the rugged Bloomfield track, stopping at Bloomfield Falls to participate in the 'Walk of the Women' where local Aborigine women share their knowledge of the sacred falls. Enjoy dinner with the locals before sleeping under the stars in a swag.
Head north and meet an Aboriginal Elder and story keeper, who will teach about several ancestral rock art sites and survival techniques of the local Aborigines. Travel back to Cairns where the tour ends at 7:30pm. Feel free to book any onward travel from 9pm onwards.
