You’ve travelled to the end of the earth for the classic Antarctic journey—so why not enjoy the complete experience? The hiking haven of El Chalten is the perfect introduction to Patagonia. With access to Chile’s beautiful Torres del Paine National Park, there is no better place to explore than El Calafate. Here, you will experience the breathtaking beauty of Patagonia before returning to Ushuaia and boarding the M/S Expedition to encounter stunning landscapes few have ever witnessed. A true adventure to the world’s most remote wilderness, this 20-day expedition will introduce the traveller to the magic of Patagonia, the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula.

  • 8 nights (comfort/superior) hotels, 2 nights camping stay, with facilities nearby (sleeping bag, tent, and sleeping mat provided). On board the M/S Expedition (9 nights) in triple, twin-share cabins, or suites (all with ensuite bathrooms and a porthole/window). Please note that cabins consist of twin sized berths and are outside facing. Suites have one queen bed.
  • M/S Expedition, Zodiac, Local buses, Private buses, Local flights.

Day 1 Arrive Ushuaia

Arrive in Ushuaia at any time.

Day 2-3 El Chaltén (2B)

Fly to El Calafate. Transfer to El Chaltén. Day hike from our El Chaltén base in Glacier National Park. Hike to Laguna de Los Tres for awe-inspiring views.

Day 4-5 El Calafate / Glacier National Park (2B)

Return back to El Calafate. Explore the Moreno Glacier within Glacier National Park. Explore the Moreno Glacier within Glacier National Park. Search for condors, eagles, flamingos and rheas in this beautiful landscape.

Day 6-9 Torres del Paine National Park (4B, 2L, 2D)

Travel south into Chile to spend the night in the small town of Puerto Natales. Get ready for the two and half days of hiking and camping in the spectacular Torres Del Payne Park. Hike through the world-renowned rough beauty of Patagonia, with breathtaking views of the three pink granite “Towers.” See unique wildlife, including vicuña, rheas and Patagonian hares. Travel by boat on Lake Pehoe amongst the icebergs of Grey Glacier. Then on Day 9 head back to Puerto Natales to relax and try some fresh salmon and Chilean wine.

Day 10-13 Ushuaia / the Drake Passage (4B,2L,3D)

Return to Ushuaia for one more night on the town, and then prepare for Antarctica. Embarkation on the M/S Expedition begins in the afternoon on Day 11. Enjoy the sunset over the Beagle Channel as you head towards Cape Horn before crossing the Drake Passage. Enjoy daily lectures from your expedition team and keep an eye out for the first sightings of icebergs, whales, and albatross following in the ship's wake.

Day 14-17 Antarctic Peninsula & the South Shetland Islands (4B,4L,4D)

Experience some of the most unique wildlife viewing and inspiring scenery in the world as you set foot on the Antarctic continent. Attempt two shore landings per day (weather conditions permitting), and encounter gentoo, chinstrap and Adélie penguin rookeries, Weddell, crabeater and leopard seals, and orca, humpback and minke whales in the cold Antarctic waters. The Peninsula also has a remarkable human history. During the voyage we will learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world.

Day 18-19 The Drake Passage (2B,2L,2D)

Head back north across the Drake Passage to Ushuaia. From the observation deck, search whales. In between bird and whale watching and final lectures, relax and review the adventures of the past week.

Day 20 Depart Ushuaia (B)

Disembark in the morning. Your tour ends at the pier.
