From China's modern capital of Beijing travel back in time across the grasslands of central China to Tibet and ‘the roof of the world’. Private bus to the Great Wall. Visit Tiananmen Square and have a guided tour of the Forbidden City.
On Day 3 in the afternoon depart on a 48-hour train journey to Lhasa. Enjoy the views while watching the scenery completely change as you climb onto the Tibetan Plateau.
Arrive Lhasa on Day 5. Orientation walk around Barkhor Square, Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace and either Sera or Drepung Monastery.
Drive to Gyantse along Yamdrok Tso with a visit to Pelkor Chode Monastery.
Optional visit to Gyantse Fort and continue to Shigatse visiting the Tashilunpo Monastery.
Drive to Everest Base Camp. Hike to base camp and visit the world's highest monastery.
Follow the road west across grasslands and passes culminating in the first spectacular view of Mt Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
Embark on the toughest part of our journey, the 2.5-day Kailash kora (circuit hike). The highest pass is 5630m. The distinctive snow-topped pyramid of Kailash stands apart and distinct from those around it, dominating the landscape.
Crossing the grasslands, we come back down south to Saga.
Cross one of the most spectacular mountain passes, topped with prayer flags and wind-driven prayer wheels.
