Kaieteur Falls, Guyana

Wild, yet welcoming

The only English-speaking country in South America, Guyana is a bewildering mix of colonial leftovers, dense Amazonian jungles, and Caribbean flair. Decades of political upheaval have left Guyana underdeveloped, but her citizens are hard at work putting the country on its feet, and visitors are always welcome. Ecotourism is the principal draw here, with those aforementioned inland jungles offering all manner of exotic wildlife, while the vibrant capital, Georgetown, wakes up once the sun goes down.
