It was from Mongolia that Ghengis Khan set forth to conquer the world. This unique adventure is your chance to return to this heartland and let its people and scenery capture your heart. Leave Ulaanbaatar and the modern world behind and travel by horseback or oxcart to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park for life with nomadic families. You'll live in a ger, take tea with your neighbours, ride horses, and learn archery and garment-making skills. It's eight days like you never imagined. Participants should be comfortable around and on horses.

Day 1Ulaanbaatar

Arrive at any time.

Day 2Ulaanbaatar/Gorkhi Terelj National Park(1L, 1D)

Travel by bus, then by either oxcart or horse to reach the first nomadic family. Learn the Mongolian techniques to saddle a horse and prepare an oxcart before an evening of traditional games and a hot dinner with the hosts. Enjoy the first of many star-strewn nights before going to sleep in a ger.

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is a beautiful alpine retreat with imposing rock formations and endless forests.

Day 3Gorkhi Terelj National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)

Travel 24km (15 mi) by horseback, then learn how to make Mongolian patterns for traditional garments from a well-known nomadic seamstress. Enjoy lunch, dinner, and traditional tea with the seamstress and her family.

Day 4Gorkhi Terelj National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)

Learn how to tie traditional knots to tether livestock together as well as how to make buttons for traditional Mongolian nomadic garments from another host family.

Day 5Gorkhi Terelj National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)

Challenge local nomads to a friendly archery competition after practicing with traditional Mongolian bows and arrows. Travel in the afternoon by oxcart to the next nomadic host family.

Day 6Gorkhi Terelj National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)

Rise bright and early to assist the nomadic hosts with cow milking before learning how to make traditional dairy products that will accompany breakfast. Travel to visit another family in the afternoon.

Day 7Gorkhi Terelj National Park/Ulaanbaatar(1B, 1L)

Learn to steer an oxcart with the nomadic hosts and practice around the area. Travel back to the capital after lunch.
