Adventure travel? When boomers are ziplining through jungle canopies, time to cut the cord and find a new rush

It's still expensive, but travel to the planet's seventh continent has become more affordable thanks to the Canadian travel company G Adventures. G Adventures began sailing its own ship (the 100-passenger Explorer) there in 2004.
Its 10-day cruises start at $4,050 per person and include everything but airfare to Ushuaia.

Beyond its bottom-of-the-world appeal, Antarctica lures travellers keen to see untouched wilderness, says Kira Zack, G Adventures's public relations manager. They also come to view uncommon wildlife, from sperm whales to king penguins. And if there's one animal single-handedly fuelling the white continent's popularity, it's the penguin. These tuxedoed birds are so cool, it's no wonder their homeland is hot.
