October 18, 2005 - A large landslide occurred in the Sacred Valley near Cuzco, Peru on October 12. The landslide covered 7 kilometers of the train track near to Km77 on the way from Cuzco to the start of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
There are 200m of track between Cuzco and the town of Aguas Calientes near Machu Picchu that were covered in debris. At this time, the tracks have been cleared and all trains going to and from Machu Picchu are running on a normal schedule.
We are in regular contact with our Cuzco office in regards to groups who are either currently on or about to start the Inca Trail, and also those groups who are in Aguas Calientes.
