G Adventures gives back with fundraising event

15 Mar 2006

March 15, 2006 - Ladies and gentlemen, step right up to an extraordinary evening of free-flying, fire-tossing entertainment. The Planeterra Foundation, G Adventures’ non-profit organization, is pleased to announce its kick off fundraiser for 2006, Ignite the Night.

Ignite the Night will be held on May 4, 2006, featuring performers from the unique Zero Gravity Circus, including the master artistry of fire spinners, the elegance of silk aerial acrobats, contortionists who twist into impossible poses, and blacklite breakdancers. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a sensational 10-item silent auction, which includes an exciting 8-day Costa Rica Adventure from G Adventures, professional chef services, a membership from Diesel Fitness, a digital camera from Fuji Film, a personal training package from Tranz4m, Platinum seats to an event at the Air Canada Centre and much more.

“Our goal for Planeterra this year is to raise $250,000 to fund several community projects around the world, says Bruce Poon Tip, CEO. "G Adventures will also match all donations and cover administration costs so that 100% of the proceeds can go directly towards our Planeterra projects. With Ignite the Night, the money raised will specifically go towards purchasing land and building a permanent home for Inti Runakunaq Wasin, a drop in centre for street children that we support in Cuzco, Peru. The current facility is very small and there is a long waiting list of kids who want to get in, so we need to build a permanent home for them.”

Date: May 4, 2006 at 8pm
Location: Steam Whistle Brewery in Toronto
Tickets: Only $25 and can be purchased online at http://www.planeterra.org/support.php, or in person at the G Adventures Concept Store at 346A Bloor St West (at Spadina). Ages 19+.

Facts about Inti Runakunaq Wasin street home for children

-Planeterra works with Inti Runakunaq Wasin (IRW), meaning "house of the people of the sun", a local Peruvian non-profit organization that acts as a safe haven for children in need.

-IRW currently rents a small apartment space and is operated by a group of social workers, teachers and other professionals who volunteer their time to provide support programs for children and their families.

-Children can voluntarily drop-in and participate in a variety of classes and workshops that teach them valuable skills including reading, writing, carpentry, handicrafts, shoe repair, cooking, music and English.

-Our goal for IRW is to raise $100,000 USD to facilitate the purchase of land in Cuzco in order to construct a bigger home which will offer support programs to 100 children and their families.
