Leave the big city behind and travel 28km (17 mi) northeast to the islands of Tigre in the ParanĂ¡ Delta. Named for the "tigres" (or jaguars, really) that once lived here, the town and surrounding waterways are a popular getaway for locals, who come to buy fruit at the riverside market, shop for antiques, motor in mahogany launches, hike, fish and eat a meal in the many restaurants and pubs that line the shore.
