On the first of our four hikes, head south and set out on a full-day trek from Stavros to the hilltop village of Pelekas. Walk through lush, old-growth forests on narrow footpaths as you take in Corfu's rocky coastal scenery.

From the village of Stavros, hike along narrow footpaths, passing old-growth trees and huge limestone rocks. After the village of Ano Garouna, climb up to the chapel on Agi Deka Mountain, with an amazing view to the south — it's the second highest freestanding peak on Corfu. Descend through the forest to reach the picturesque villages of Agi Deka and Sinarades. Pass through olive groves to reach Pelekas, a small village situated on a hill high above the west coast.

Hike through olive groves and uphill paths to reach the village of Lakones, nestled high above the bays and beaches of western Corfu. Stop by a local distillery to sample liqueur and traditional sweets made from the precious golden orange of Corfu — the kumquat.

From the village square of Giannades, hike through the hills, reaching an area with magnificent views over the Ropa Plain — a unique flat landscape in the middle of the island. Continue through olive groves to the village of Lipades, before a final uphill hike to Lakones, with incredible views over Paleokastritsa bay. After the climb, opt to reward yourself with homemade cake and coffee at a local bakery.

Travel back to Corfu from Lakones and stop for a visit to a traditional family-owned distillery that manufactures kumquat liqueur and traditional sweets such as mandoles-mandolato. The kumquat was first brought to Corfu in 1846 by an English botanist and has since become a trademark of the island. Sample liqueur and sweet treats made from this bittersweet fruit and learn all about its presence around you in Corfu.

Lace up for another full-day hike through the gorgeous landscapes of Corfu. Visit the ruins of a Byzantine castle, hike up to one of the island's best viewpoints, descend into a valley behind a gorge and opt to visit a chapel in a cave.
Set off from Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle perched high above a cliff that once protected this part of the island from pirate attacks. Pass the village of Krini with its inviting square and continue to one of Corfu's most breathtaking viewpoints. Head down towards the long, sandy beach at Agios Georgios and into a valley, before reaching Afionas at the top of the hill. Stop by the cave-like chapel of Agios Styliano, and opt to explore the bay of Porto Timoni or take a quick dip in the blue waters.

Spend the day trekking along the island's most southern point. Trek through the ruins of the Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary, take in views of Arkoudilas Beach, and wander past Mischopoulos Lake before heading back to Corfu.
